The Pioneer Explorations of "Scotch Boy" John Tod is an educational website produced under contract to Canada's Digital Collections program, Industry Canada and the British Columbia Heritage Branch. Tod was a fur trader who worked his way through the ranks of the Hudson's Bay Company. Tod came to Canada from Scotland in 1811 and remained until his death in 1882.

Today, his house in Victoria, British Columbia, is the oldest continually inhabited residence in the province. The wealth of adventure, historical records, and cultural and political change spanning Tod's life make him an excellent subject for students of Canadian social studies.

The site is written to complement the Integrated Resource Packages for British Columbia grade 5 Social Studies. The depth of the topic, the primary resources and documents in this site make it a good resource for all researchers. We hope you enjoy your adventures with John Tod.
