Justin hill Victoria, b.c. canada - Monday, March 05, 2001 at 10:02:26 (PST) I am doing a project for Socials at school on Craigflower Farm, and have been searching for some good information on it for SO long. Now I have finally found a website that tells me all I want to know! This is great! Laura Victoria, B.C. Canada - Thursday, January 18, 2001 at 18:44:47 (PST) I am a descendant of the Veitch (William, Sr. and Jane) and Porter (Robert) Families, early settlers in Craigflower. I've been astouned at the amount of information I've discovered on the Veitch Family, begining with their journey aboard the Norman Morrison. It's been more difficult to learn about the Porters. I've been told that my Great-Grandmother, Susannah Porter Veitch, daughter of Robert was of Indian descent. I would appreciate knowing more. Tracy Thanem Caldwell Port Angeles, WA USA - Wednesday, January 03, 2001 at 21:43:27 (PST) I am a descendent of Duncan and Helen Lidgate who came from Scotland on the Norman Morrison as one of the settlers at Craigflower Farm. My great grandfather helped build Craigflower Manor and Schoolhouse. After 5 years working at Craigflower, in 1858 they gave him 50 acres in Saanich on Mt. Newton Crossroad where he built a house. They called it Rose May Cottage. My dad was born there. The people who bought the house restored it and added on and it still stands. My grandfather (William) was six or seven when they came from Scotland. He married Margaret Greig. My cousin Cil lived at Rose May cottage as a child. A few years ago she organized to have us put a plaque on the side of Mt. Newton Crossroad which commemorates the Lidgates. Cil also has done a lot of family geneology.
